PMC’s Expert Witness Services

An expert witness is someone with extensive knowledge on a particular topic. The expert witness has demonstrable proof of his expertise. That proof may be found in his academic education, industry certifications that he has achieved, real-world experience in the subject matter about which he will give testimony.

An expert witness is someone who provides unbiased testimony in a court of law or any other official venue. The testimony provided is not biased toward either party in a lawsuit; rather, it is presented as a detailed evaluation of an in-depth analysis of a particular situation.

In today’s world, infrared thermography may be applied to a vast number of applications. Electrical and mechanical systems, flat roofs and building envelopes are just a few of the areas where thermal imaging is routinely used to detect and document conditions which are otherwise undetectable.

Infrared thermography can provide compelling evidence when applied to document deficiencies associated with poor workmanship, construction defects, or material failure.

Infrared technology allows the human eye to see what is otherwise invisible through the lens of an infrared camera. This opens up a whole new world of exploration into the movement of heat energy or infrared radiation through walls, roofs, in-floor heat systems, electronic circuits, electrical enclosures and a vast array of mechanical equipment.

In the case of an electrical circuit, the resistance to the flow of electrons through a connection on a circuit breaker creates heat which the infrared camera “sees” as an elevated temperature. Heat energy migrating through a wall structure will vary based on the makeup of the structure itself.

If there is misapplied or missing insulation or other structural defect, the disrupted flow of the heat energy will display on the infrared camera.

When situations arise where parties disagree on the condition or performance of facilities or the assets within, an expert thermographer can help to bring closure with a properly engineered and executed infrared inspection.

PMC has more than 20 years of experience in thermography. We have performed thousands of infrared inspections for commercial, industrial, and residential properties and teach Level I, II and III infrared thermography courses for clients throughout the United States.

All inspections and training courses are performed by Level III Infraspection Institute Certified Infrared Thermographers utilizing state-of-the-art equipment. All work is performed following industry best practices and published standards.

In addition to conducting infrared inspections, PMC can also review the work product of other thermographers.

Moreover, PMC can assist legal counsel with trial preparation. Trial preparation provides a clear discussion of the science of infrared and how it plays with a pending case.

PMC acts as a valued team member offering our honest unbiased opinion regarding the thermal scope of work as it pertains to the case.

Should you have a pending legal case involving thermography, please give us a call to discuss how we may be of assistance.
